Wilma's "My Child is Your Child" Community Project - Indigo's in Africa Building a New Community

by Celia Fenn

Wilma's project within her community is to ensure that every child is cared for and has an equal chance in life. In Africa, this is quite an undertaking. But her work has been to empower herself through getting the best training, and then to inspire the youth and their parents within the community to participate in group projects for the upliftment of the community. Starchild recently sponsored her to attend a course on working with children, and she has also been sponsored by the local Child Welfare organization to upgrade her skills.

So, Starchild is happy to be able to sponsor her work, in line with our aims of bringing light into communties and helping to seed and ground the New Earth energy.

Here, Wilma and I go shopping to purchase pots and plates and utensils for the Children's Food program:

Here are some images from the Friday afternoon Youth Development program. The idea here is to empower the youth through giving them life skills and opportunities. The images below are from a debate on teen-age sexuality, and the problems of early pregnancy and HIV/aids in the community. These images are from the debate among the teens, and then they practiced their aids education drama or play that they aim to perform for the youth of the community:

This is Wilma's son, Dominic, aka Mr Boland College. Dominic is a second year college student, studying towards a diploma in Social Work. He is also involved in the program, and he will be in charge of the new Vegetable Garden program that we are starting this week. There will be more on that later:

Our next sponsorship was of the Youth Day celebration that was organized by Wilma for the young people of the community. South Africa celebrates "Youth Day" on the 16th of June. Here is me doing a brief talk to the young people, as the main sponsor:

Wilma is dressed in "costume" as a school child. This community has a strong sense of play, and they love to dress up and they love to dance. Here is Wilma with some of her young helpers on the day:

Then the performances and the dancing, as the young people show off their skills:

Maybe it will help you to understand how your money helps us. These young Indigos, with their talents and energies, are all self taught as performers. There are no dance teachers or dance schools, no drama classes and no art training. These young dancers teach themselves by watching TV and DVD performances. Our program hopes to empower these young people by helping them to gain access to that kind of empowerment and training. At this performance, we sponsored costumes and the sound system for the young performers. But it was their day! Now, please click here to read more about Shiree, a young Indigo who has been able to gain formal training as a gymnast, and has just departed on her first trip to represent her country as a gymnast in Europe. We were able to sponsor some of Shiree's costs from your donations as well.
