Thanks to your genorosity and love, we have already been able to begin work on the project. We have ZAR 3,500, which is enough to start work....
This week I met with Wilma and Emily and we discussed what needed to happen to make our project move.
We decided that the first and most important thing was to replant the vegetable gardens which had become weed infested and overgrown. The previous sponsorship for the gardens had dried up, and they had become neglected. This means that the children are getting a diet that is mainly carbohydrate, instead of the "soup" that one would expect from a soup kitchen.
It is so important that children get the nourishment of fresh vegetables in their diet, so the first work was to hire two workmen for a week to clear the gardens and prepare the beds for planting. I will be taking pictures on Monday so that you can see the work being done.
Also, a reader offered to ask for sponsorship for kitchen utensils and equipment, and so we are expecting help there as well.
Here is a view of what the kitchen and play area looks like as we begin:

As you can see, we have two shipping containers and a roof. The shanties that these children call "home" are visible in the background.
We want also to enclose the back, so that we can create a private play and dining area for the children.
And of course, we want to paint things, maybe create murals to entertain and give pleasure to the children who come here....

So.....as work begins...the message is....WATCH THIS SPACE!
