One day the Little Stones were sitting under a big tree. A small, brown ball fell down and bounced next to them. The Little Stone picked it up and said, "This is soft and it smells good - what could it be?"
The tree answered, "This is a seed. There is a baby tree inside of it." The stone opened up the seed but there was no tree inside. How could a big tree get into something so small? What kind of magic is this?
"You have to plant the seed in the Mother Earth - and touch it many times with the Water Spirit. Then one day you will see a sprout peeking out of the ground, looking for the sun, and more water. Day by day in the sunshine it gets bigger and bigger, until one day it grows a flower.
Every flower makes a sweet nectar to attract the bees and a special soft powder, called pollen. The bees come to drink the nectar and the pollen sticks to their legs. Then the bee goes to another flower and some of the pollen falls off.

When each flower receives the pollen it needs from some other flower it makes a fruit - and inside of the fruit there are many new seeds - and inside of each seed - there is a new tree!
The seeds travel around the world in many ways. Some seeds get stuck in the furry coats of animals and fall off far away from the tree where they were born.

Some seeds are eaten by birds and drop from the bird's body unharmed in another land.

The wind carries some seeds up into the air to a new place where they can find more water to grow.

Farmers plant seeds in fields to grow food for animals and people. Seeds are a special kind of magic. The magic of a new life!
